The Miller Marsh Project
The Iowa Department of Transportation has purchased 146.5 acres of adjacent property from three
landowners as a wetland mitigation site for the construction of Highway 20. Webster County
Conservation has applied for a Habitat Stamp Grant to purchase an additional 31.3 acres to provide
another access to the property. Representatives from WCCB approached the Pheasants Forever
committee late in 2006 to see if the chapter could offer any financial assistance. After a discussion the
chapter pledged $25,000 towards the acquisition and development of the property. Two wetlands have
been restored as well as the planting of a pristine native prairie mix. A windbreak will be established on
the north and west boundaries of the property. This area is open to the public for all types of recreational
uses that are compatible with wildlife habitat such as nature study, bird watching and hunting. Once this
project is completed it would be 215.8 acres of wildlife habitat here in Webster County!!!
This donation comes directly from the money raised at the Webster County Pheasants Forever Banquets.
